Hi Everyone,

The Ottawa Beavers Banshees Rugby Football Club will begin practices for the 2010 season on Tuesday the 30th at Clegg Field at 6:00-8:00. This is the first practice of the season so its important everyone shows up. See you there!

Executive:

There are significant changes to the club executive this year. A number of vacancies needed to be filled as a result of people stepping down from their positions: Justin Lalonde stepped down as President at the AGM, Frances Kremarik had resigned her position as VP Game Women after the end of the last season, Tamara Kulyk was unable to continue on as VP Admin Women as she is currently at school in the UK, and the position of Secretary was for all intents and purposes vacant also.
The decision was made at the AGM to combine the two VP Admin positions into one, as the nature of the position actually made it much easier for one person to do the work on behalf of both the Beavers and Banshees.
The new executive is as follows:
President – Chris “Shaggy” Fox (Replaces Justin Lalonde); christopher_r_fox@hotmail.com
Treasurer – Mike Lambe; lambeman44@hotmail.com
VP Game Men – Robin Bridge (Replaces Grant Kealey); robinabridge@gmail.com
VP Game Women – Parastoo Badie (Replaces Frances Kremarik); parastoo.badie@gmail.com
VP Admin – Seb Cray (Replaces Chris Fox and Tamara Kulyk); scrayz@hotmail.com
Secretary – Mike Vandegriend (Replaces Blake “Was I on the Executive?” Wilson); mvandegriend@yahoo.com

Many thanks to the members of the executive who have stepped down this year; the work you have done for the club is greatly appreciated – except you Blake.

Dues:

The following dues structure was established for the coming season. Senior and Student dues remained the same as last season, but the decision was made to reduce Junior dues to offer.

Senior - $400
Student - $350
Junior - $200

For Seniors and Students, an minimum initial payment of $250 will be required prior to registration with the remainder being covered by post-dated cheques. For Juniors, the full amount is required on registration.

Training:

Due to the welcome but unseasonably warm weather, it looks like we are going to be able to head outside for training earlier than normal. A subsequent email will be sent out to let people know when we will actually start practicing, but at this rate we may be able to start the last week of March or early April.

Our spring practices will be held at the field on Clegg St. where we normally start the year. This link to the club website (http://ottawabeavers.com/info/info.php?infoid=4) shows where training on Clegg will take place – under the Spring Training heading. Please don’t pay too much attention to the rest of the website details for now, though.

Once our City field permit becomes active, we will move to our summer training pitch, which will no longer be at the Terry Fox facility at Mooney’s Bay. The new training grounds will be at Merivale High School (http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=merivale+high+school&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&hl=en&hq=merivale+high+school&hnear=Ottawa,+ON&z=16&iwloc=A&cid=9612107597043929734). The change of pitch will save the club thousands of dollars over the course of the season, and will provide us with more room in which to run our practices.

That’s about it for now. Stay tuned for an update on the start of training. If you have any questions, send me or another member of the executive at the email addresses listed above.

Thanks,

Shaggy
